The Du Lac Chronicles: Book 1 by Mary Anne Yarde

I read book 2 and liked it so much that I picked up book 1. The story jumps right into the heart of action with King Alden being held as a prisoner. Compared to book 2, Alden’s story is somewhat more slow paced and only picking up towards the end. After reading both books, I find Merton a much more colorful character in his swashbuckling way. Annis the lead female character while brave is often agonizingly insecure in Alden’s commitment to her. I note with amusement women drank alcohol even when they were pregnant in the olden days. Well, if there’s an army after my head, I’ll be drinking lots of wine too! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
